Santos spent eight memorable years working with CR7 at international level, with the pair savouring European Championship glory together in 2016. Ronaldo now has record-breaking hauls of 217 caps and 135 goals for his country.

He is showing no sign of slowing down at 39 years of age, with Portugal or Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr, and is expected to extend his career through to the next World Cup finals in 2026. Santos believes the all-time great will grace that tournament as he remains part of the global elite.

Santos said at the Portuguese Football Federation’s 110th anniversary, as reported by : “No surprise there, I always expected him to be at a high level until late in his career. I have no doubt that he will be at the World Cup and will give his all so that Portugal can win another title. Cristiano is the best player in the world, full stop.”
